Types of Agitator Blades
1. Propeller Agitator
- Shape: 3 or 4 blades, pitched.
- Action: Creates axial flow (top to bottom circulation).
- Use: Low-viscosity liquids, blending, mixing, and circulation.
- Industries: Beverages, chemicals, pharmaceuticals.
2. Turbine Agitator
- Shape: Flat or pitched blades mounted on a disc.
- Action: Provides radial flow, intense mixing, good for gas–liquid dispersion.
- Use: Moderate to high-viscosity fluids, emulsification, fermentation.
- Industries: Pharma, chemicals, fermentation.
3. Paddle Agitator
- Shape: Two flat blades, pitched or straight.
- Action: Radial flow, gentle mixing.
- Use: Mixing viscous liquids, maintaining suspension.
- Industries: Paints, adhesives, food, wastewater treatment.
4. Anchor Agitator
- Shape: Anchor-like blade fitting close to tank walls.
- Action: Scrapes along vessel walls, prevents material buildup.
- Use: High-viscosity products like pastes, creams, gels.
- Industries: Food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals.
5. Helical / Ribbon Agitator
- Shape: Helical or spiral blades covering large area.
- Action: Axial and radial flow combined.
- Use: Highly viscous fluids, mixing from top to bottom.
- Industries: Chemicals, dough, slurries, viscous suspensions.
6. Saw-tooth Disc (High-Shear Agitator)
- Shape: Circular disc with saw-tooth edges.
- Action: Creates strong shear forces.
- Use: Dispersion of powders, emulsification, breaking agglomerates.
- Industries: Paints, inks, coatings, emulsions.
7. Marine Propeller
- Shape: Similar to ship propeller, pitched blades.
- Action: Produces axial circulation.
- Use: Low-viscosity mixing, solid suspension.
- Industries: Water treatment, beverages.
✅ Summary:
- Low viscosity: Propeller, Marine propeller.
- Moderate viscosity: Turbine, Paddle.
- High viscosity / sticky materials: Anchor, Helical, Ribbon.
- Special dispersion needs: Saw-tooth disc (high shear).
